KK’s Live Healthy Journal: So You Think You Can Dance Vegas Week
Every time the new season of So You Think You Can Dance gets rolling, I get this fire in me to do something to change my life. I see all of these people with amazing stamina and incredible bodies who can do incredible things, and it makes me wish I were like them. And this year, I’m going to do something about it! And I’m going to be blogging about it right here in my new Live Healthy Journal feature, which I hope will be a daily feature here at Lively Women.
See, my husband and I have both been in this cycle of, “Okay, let’s get healthy… Never mind!” for a couple of years now. We both want to get in better shape and drop a couple of pounds. I’m trying to lose 10, and he’s trying to lose, well, let’s just say it’s more than that. We each have our work cut out for ourselves.
So here’s what we’ve done so far:
- We bought a scale (for the first time in 5 years).
- We created a gocery budget that does not allow for junk food.
- We squeezed in room in the budget for low-fat ice cream (because hey, dairy is good for you!) and healthy desserts like fresh berries so we can have a treat from time to time and won’t feel compelled to go crazy at the Dairy Queen down the street.
- Hubby created a meal plan for us with lots of options for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks and set times to eat so those of us who forget to eat or don’t want to eat (ahem, that would be me)have a system to be accountable to.
- We made a committment to walk or play Wii or run around with the dogs or SOMETHING active for at least 30 minutes 5 times a week.
I also started stretching every night about 2 weeks ago (yes, when the SYCYCD auditions started) and have seen a huge increase in my flexibility. And this morning, I put on my new bike helmet and went for a 40some-minute bike ride, during which I discovered a great little dirt road I had never seen before and enjoyed exploring. And then I came home and laid down on the bathroom floor for 20 minutes because I thought I was going to throw up. Note to self: Take it slow…
Weight: 131.6 pounds
Goal weight: 121 pounds
Workout: 40-minute bike ride
Meals: Special K and strawberries; Costco hotdog with brown mustard, ketchup, relish, onions, and sauerkraut; steak, fresh corn on the cob, salad

I’ll be sure to follow your Live Healthy Journal! I’ve though about blogging about attempts to eat healthier, but I don’t know if anyone would be interested.
