Marilyn Monroe’s Last Sitting and Lindsay Lohan in New York Magazine
I heard the buzz about Lindsay Lohan recreating Marilyn Monroe’s famous “Last Sitting” in New York magazine far before I actually saw the pictures. It seemed odd to me, her coming out of rehab and jumping into a Marilyn shoot, but wow, it’s stunning.
Here is the New York magazine Last Sitting with Lindsay Lohan as Marilyn Monroe. I particularly loved the first several and last few slides. They are absolutely gorgeous. But the really mind-blowing thing about this photo shoot is how much Lindsay evokes the original. Styling aside, she really captured the essence of Marilyn Monroe with her presence, down to the way she curves her arm.

Wow, I just saw Lindsay Lohan’s boobs. I always feel a little weirded out when I see a celebrity’s boobs. Kind of like I’ve crossed a line (even if they’ve invited me - the public - to by showing their boobs).
Anyway, boobage talk aside, here’s what I think:
I am a huge fan of Marilyn Monroe. I always have been. Sure, she had her issues, but we all do. If I launched into all the reasons I like Marilyn (and all of the things I don’t particularly like or agree with), this comment would be a blog post of its own, so I won’t. What I will say is that while I’m impressed with the lasting impression Marilyn left on the world, I would like to see fewer females (celebrities and random janes alike) aiming for gorgeousness by mimicking her, and more females setting their own gorgeousness standards.
I completely get why Lindsay or anyone else would do this. Would I recreate “The Last Sitting” if given the chance? Heck yeah I would! Talk about having fun and some great souvenirs to boot. But, at this point, I really am tired of seeing all the Marilyn recreations and Marilyn-esque photos. I want something new, original - I want some female to do something that will leave a new lasting impression.

I came upon you and your blogspace by accident . I was googling my name/business and several came up w/the name Kristen King.. clicked on yours and saw this your post on Marilyn’s last sitting.
First, my name is Kristen (with an E) King. My birthdate is June 1st… same day as Marilyn Monroe (or Norma Jean). I am twice your age and find it rather curious that the mystery, magic of Marilyn still holds interest, continually, through many generations, including, yours. When I was a child, 7evenish.. I loved to dress up in my mother’s long black gloves(they came up nearly to my shoulders) and crinoline slips.. do you know what a crinoline slip is?? It puffed out your skirt or dress .. tight at the waist to hip then poofed out to create a full fluffy affect under your dress or skirt. I’d pull the slip over my chest and wear the gloves and come out behind the corner of a wall with my black gloves and sing” That old black magic” for my Dad and family. I LOVED that! It was fun and so intoxicating. I didn’t know until much later in life.. late 20’s that I shared her birthdate.. eery.
I related to her charisma she had with men, the public.. and the vulnerable, naive, no one “getting’ her true talents.. couldn’t see past her beauty.. nor wanted to in film in the 50’s/60’s. Too bad she hadn’t been born later in life.. she would have rocked and created a much broader and full version of herself. Her addictions to ground herself became ungrounding and her affliations with men in high places that she sought for stability, love, and security were her demise and ultimate death. Interesting that her legend of beauty and grace lives on and on and on. There IS no new replacement for a complex, icon of her caliber. Funny, that Lindsey emulated her to the “enth” degree .. as her life path is parallel to Marilyn’s. When doing the shoot for the NYorker, I can, only, imagine that stepping directly into that image, she “got” it right because of her duality of life to Marilyn’s.
I’m not suprised… and the beat goes on…

Okay, this is simple Lindsay Lohan can not & I don’t thing many can match Marilyn Monroe. She is a woman whose image left many in awe. She was able to make revealing elegant & tasteful, & that is an almost impossible feat for any. That beginning said I did like 1 or two pics in the bunch (at least better than the others) because Lindsay had stop trying so hard to be Marilyn Monroe. I think a women’s ability to leave people in awe comes from being her-self & have confidence in who she is. I truly believe that is the only way to match Marilyn Monroe, & one of the things that made her who she was. I think Lohan quite frankly seems nervous in all the pics & not comfortable in her own skin.
