On Tuesday, we talked about abortifacient herbs, and I promised to discuss some of the 20 herbs listed in more detail. Read on to learn more about pennyroyal.
PENNYROYAL, is believed to be one of the most effective herbal abortifacients. It induces contractions to abort the fetus. Consumed by drinking a hot tea made from the herb, pennyroyal is frequently combined with brewer’s yeast, blue cohosh, or mugwort. Essential oil of pennyroyal is deadly, and too much of the herb itself is purportedly very dangerous.
There have been numerous reported deaths from pennyroyal overdoses, and one woman who reportedly died of serious complications after attempting pennyroyal abortion without realizing that she had an ectopic pregnancy.
Other uses of pennyroyal include treating gastrointestinal and digestive disorders, as an insect repellent, and in commercial cleaning products.
