Want to See if Your Doctor Is the Real Deal? Need to Find a New Physician?

by Kristen King on January 18th, 2008

Use Vitals.com to Find a Doctor or Check Up on YoursWhether you’re trying to find out about a new doctor or want to rate your own, Vitals.com is worth a look. It’s a searchable database of physician information and ratings based on data submitted by real patients.

According to a promotional e-mail they sent me, you can use the site to:

  • Check up on current physicians to review their medical education and training, hospital affiliation, sanctions, and volume of procedures performed.
  • Read independent doctor reviews, peer evaluations and patient feedback on all physicians.
  • Rate a doctor and provide their own feedback on the quality of care

All you have to do is type in your doctor’s name and location, accept the terms of use, and boom, you have your results. I tested it out on my primary care physician whom I’ve been using for about 5 years, and the results were accurate and included not only education information, but also disciplinary records for sanctions, actions, and instances of malpractice (0 across the board for my guy, FYI).

Definitely worth a look. I know I’ll be using it when we move out to Colorado to help me find a new gynecologist! I tried it out to see what kind of results I would get, and I was able to narrow my search by specialty, level of training, education, degree, and quality of patient reviews. I was also able to rate how important various criteria were to help me find the best match. It’s pretty cool.

Would you use Vitals.com to find or rate a medical care provider? Leave a comment.
