Walking Reduces Menopause Symptoms

by Kristen King on January 6th, 2008

Walking During Menopause Reduces StressAccording to a recent USA Today article, women who walk during menopause experience a dramatic reduction in stress and other psychological symptoms compared with their sedentary counterparts.

The results of a study by Temple University on physical activity in menopausal women indicated that,

walking wasn’t able to stop hot flashes that often start a few years before menopause. But women who said they walked briskly 40 to 90 minutes five days a week were much less likely to report overwhelming levels of stress compared with sedentary women.

Here are some ideas to help you walk more:

  • Find a walking buddy to help you stay accountable and give you company on your jaunts.
  • Offer to walk a neighbor’s dog daily if you don’t have your own.
  • Build walking into your morning routine.
