Blood Test to Detect Breast Cancer and Genetic Screening for Breast Cancer in Men
Genetic testing for breast cancer is both popular and controversial, but a new player is on the horizon: blood testing for breast cancer. It may be available in UK as soon as next year and works by detecting abnormal gene patterns not found in healthy tissue. According to a recent BBC Health article about the test, it can detect 88% of breast cancers based on early studies.
On a similar note, men, particularly those related to women with the disease, are now being encouraged to consider genetic screening for breast cancer. About 1-2% of breast cancer cases occur in men who, obviously, do have breast tissue even though it’s not as much tissue as women, on average.
