Book Review: Big Boned, by Meg Cabot
I just finished reading Big Boned, the third book in Meg Cabot’s Heather Wells mystery series, and I’m delighted to report that it’s another hit in the tradition of Size 12 Is Not Fat and Size 14 Is Not Fat Either, the first two books in the series.
In Big Boned, Heather sets out to solve yet another murder in the "Death Dorm," the New York College residence hall where she’s the assistant director. Within the first 25 pages, Heather’s boss is dead from a bullet to the head–nothing like jumping right into the action!
But before we get to the grizzly stuff, which, since this is chick lit, isn’t all that grizzly, we get a little action from Heather’s current illicit love interest, and I don’t mean Cooper. (Though he pops up too, and man, does that subplot get some attention in this installment!)
I don’t want to give anything away, so I will leave the plot summary at that. But suffice it to say, I devoured the whole book, all 280 pages of it, in two days.
The only thing I didn’t like about it was a recurring joke that started in the first chapter and popped up throughout the book and that was, unfortunately, not funny the first time or any subsequent time. (Sorry, Meg, but let’s face it: There’s nothing funny about uterus jokes, okay? Especially when you beat them like a dead horse. Seriously, leave it out next time.)
Big Boned is a fun read that’s definitely worth picking up, even at full price. But I’m a girl who loves a good discount, so check it out on Amazon.com, and leave your opinions in the comments here at Lively Women!
