Honey: Nature’s Antibiotic
I’m a unique case because I grew up with a beekeeper for a mom, but my family has been using honey to treat scrapes and sunburn as far back as I can remember — and people have been doing the same thing since ancient Egypt and earlier. Interestingly, it’s only recently that science has really embraced honey as a viable alternative to traditional antibiotics.
Surgeons are being advised to consider the supermarket as well as the drugs cupboard when it comes to effective wound healing, according to a research review published in the October issue of IJCP, the International Journal of Clinical Practice.
And patients who’ve undergone surgery should ask their doctors whether they should apply honey to their wounds to speed up healing and reduce infection. Read more.
Of course, you should check with your doctor before trying any unique or unusual treatment, and exercise caution when giving honey to infants and very young children. But if you’re looking for an effective alternative to prescription antibiotics, honey may be just what the doctor ordered.

Cool blog I’ve been reading some back posts.
Honey is amazing. I love it and make lots of body treatments with it. Last night I actually got creative and tried to create a new hair treatment with honey. This was one of those failed attempts though. I think my rinse was lacking. Today my hair smells very honey and there’s more shine but overall is a tad sticky. I was hoping ants didn’t find me while I slept. So, it’s back to the drawing board with this treatment.
I’ve never used honey for a wound though; I’ll have to look into this.

Wow, I never knew so much about honey. Perhaps adding a bit more to my diet (OK, perhaps adding it to my diet, period), wouldn’t hurt, either.
I wonder if anyone actually ate some of the honey from King Tut’s tomb?

I don’t know if anyone DID, Alicia, but they definitely COULD have!
