Lively Women Q&A: Off-Center Cervix?

by Kristen King on September 4th, 2007

Women’s Health Advice and InformationYou ask…

My cervix isnt “dead center”. It’s actually on the left side at the top of my vagina. I’m worried that this is really abnormal! What’s wrong with me?

Lively Women answers…

Okay, don’t panic. Every woman’s body is unique even though we mostly have the same parts, so it’s possible that you’re just put together a little differently and there’s nothing to worry about. It’s also possible that there’s something pushing your cervix out of the way, like fibroids (aka benign uterine tumors), or something that’s in the wrong place.

My recommendation would be to go to your gynecologist, explain your concerns, and ask him or her to do a full pelvic exam to see if you can locate the problem. The bottom line is that it could be something or it could be nothing, but whatever it is going to be either fixable or not a problem in most cases. BUT! The only way to find out for sure is to have a medical professional examine you.

And if you’ve already had an exam, which is how you know about the problem, and that person didn’t sufficiently explain or resolve the problem, it’s time to find a new doctor.

Good luck, and stay lively!
