5 Foods to Put on Your Grocery List
Feeling hungry? Here are five foods women should eat:
- Cranberries. In addition to helping your body fight off the harmful bacteria that cause bladder infections, these tasty treats pack a powerful dose of vitamin C for overall wellness. Try 100% cranberry juice, whole-berry cranberry sauce, cranberry chutney, cranberry bread, oatmeal cookies with dried cranberries… Mmm…
- Walnuts. Brain-boosting omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory benefits are just a few of the reasons you should add these to your diet. Toss a handful on salads, add them to your baking, or just munch on a handful to hold you over before dinner.
- Beans. Can we say protein? Beans are an amazing source of low-fat, low-calorie protein, as well as fiber. They’re good for your heart, they lower your cholesterol, and they’re super cheap and easy to prepare. Check out BeanBible.com and the U.S. Dry Bean Council (who knew?) for recipes.
- Fish. Again, a great source of low-fat protein, plus those awesome omega-3’s that we love. I particularly like salmon, tuna, red snapper, and yellow tail, both cooked and as sushi. Costco has awesome prices on bags of individually packaged frozen salmon and tuna fillets. Just be cautious about eating more than a couple of serving here and there of high-mercury fish such as swordfish and king mackerel, especially if you’re pregnant.
- Tomatoes. Lots of vitamins C, A, and K, plus fiber, folate, and more than a dozen other nutrients you need to stay healthy. And they’re delicious, easy to grow yourself, and just plain pretty. Cook them, eat them raw, add them to salads and omelettes… However you eat them, just eat them!
