The Importance of Treating Yourself
It’s been a blah-ish weekend so far. Hubby left for Puerto Rico with his mom and sister on Wednesday, and I’m here alone, packing in our entirely-too-full-and-we’re-moving-in-a-week-and-a-half house, shivering in the ridiculous cold while he’s on the beach in the Carribbean. How is that fair? So I decided to treat myself.
I got takeout the first night and the second night, took a long bath, and then this morning I took myself out for breakfast at my favorite little diner. I camped out in the very back booth and got comfortable with my notebook and a sheaf of papers to work on my book (because I’m writing one!) while I enjoyed cup after cup of coffee I didn’t have to make and savored the best meal I’ve had in I don’t even know how long.
It only cost $7, but it was worth so much more. It’s a hole-in-the-wall diner that’s been there since the ’20s, but to me it felt like the Ritz. I needed to be waited on, and I needed it today. And you know what? I wasn’t one bit sorry that I’m not in Puerto Rico.
Giving yourself something special doesn’t have to cost a lot, and it doesn’t need to be a big deal. But you just need to do it sometimes. Try it this week.

I take a warm bath with salts and yummy essential oils to treat myself. It’s almost a daily ritual.
