10 Things to Know About LivelyWomen.com

by Kristen King on February 27th, 2007

According to the National Institutes of Health, there are 10 things you should know about every medical resource on the Web. Here are my answers for LivelyWomen.com as of February 26, 2007.

1. Who runs this site?
LivelyWomen.com is part of the b5media network, a global blog network. As your host, Kristen King (that’s me!) more or less has ultimate power over the site’s content. She can take responsibility for content posted as of January 1, 2007, when she started hosting Lively Women, but not before that (because someone else was running the show then). Kristen is a full-time freelance writer-editor with a background in medical writing and editing, but she’s not a medical professional.

2. Who pays for the site?
b5media funds the site through Google Ads and other affiliate income. However, the ads are clearly ads (eg, top-of-the-page banners and Google advertising), and none of the content is paid for by advertisers. Whenever Kristen promotes a specific product or service, she will always disclose whether there is an affiliate relationship. Product reviews are not paid for, but Kristen does receive free samples for the purpose of trying products so she can review them.

3. What is the purpose of the site?
LivelyWomen.com is dedicated to helping women live whole, healthy lives by providing health and lifestyle information. In fulfilling this purpose, LivelyWomen.com host Kristen King tries to provide humor, encouragement, and empathy to the site’s readers while developing relationships with them via blog content and comments.

4. Where does the information come from?
Information that appears on LivelyWomen.com is culled from a variety of sources, primarily via an RSS reader. Kristen has gathered a list of reputable scientific and medical resources as well as active and reliable blogs and online communities that deal with women’s health and reviews their contents regularly for ideas and current issues.

5. What is the basis of the information?
Kristen provides a link back to the original source for any hard data so her readers can get the information first hand and make educated health and lifestyle choices. Sometimes, the information is meant to entertain rather than to educate, but links to the source are provided in those cases as well so readers can form their own opinions.

6. How is the information selected?
Host Kristen King selects the information published on LivelyWomen.com based on its currency, relevance, and level of interest for readers. Any information that comes from a potentially questionable source is cross-referenced to verify that the information is accurate, and links to all relevant sources are provided whenever possible.

7. How current is the information?
Kristen reviews her RSS reader and public news sources several times a week and selects topics based on timeliness. Those topics with a short shelf life or those that are of critical importance get written about first. Others that have no particular time line are set aside for a later date.

8. How does the site choose links to other sites?
Kristen links only to sites that she feels will have significant informational or entertainment value to her readers. Advertising and affiliate links are labeled as such. LivelyWomen.com does not link with adult content or questionable validity.

9. What information about you does the site collect, and why?
b5media’s privacy policy is available here.

10. How does the site manage interactions with visitors?
Kristen interacts with LivelyWomen.com visitors via blog comments and e-mails she receives from readers. Kristen makes every effort to respond to comments and e-mail quickly. LivelyWomen.com does not send unsolicited e-mails to site visitors. However, if there is a problem with your comment, Kristen may contact you using the information you provided in the online form to notify you of such problem.

I like this site. Mine is not as evolved but I would love you to look at it and see if you would consider exchanging links. I am adding to mine as I have time. I am a full time college student studying communications and hope to work with helping women. Thanks.

I love the site being 50+. My age commands that I should no more about health, be extra vigilant of symptoms because I still want to see and play with my grandchildren. I am a government worker who opted to retire and become a development worker at 50. I am enjoying my new job and I feel the more that I need to guard more on my health as I have discovered there are still lots of people in my country needing help especially on health. I am also into gender awareness and development, that is why it interest me to be part of this group. More power to women!
