Does Having Kids Make You Fat?

by Kristen King on January 25th, 2007

Are Your Kids Making You Fat?I’m not talking about baby weight here, ladies, I’m talking about the long-term influence of kiddies on your eating habits. A study released in January suggests that parents may need to be more aware of their fat intake than do the childless:

Adults with children 17 and under living at home eat more fat than adults in childless households, according to a new study. Their daily fat intake is about 5 grams higher.

“It’s not a large amount, but if you do that every day, over time that adds up to be a lot of fat,” says Helena Laroche, MD, an author of the study, published in the Jan. 4 online edition of the Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine.

Science Daily likens the amount of fat to “equivalent of nearly an entire frozen pepperoni pizza each week” in their summary of the study.

It’s difficult to eat healthy with kids but I lay the law down on junk food in my house. I think most people tend to think that good, healthy food takes time to prepare and they don’t have the time for it. Not the case!
It’s hard to eat healthy sometimes and my kids often think we have the most “not fun food ever,” but they’re healthy and not cracked out on sugar. They get enough treats to curtail any bingeing, though.
