Choosing for Yourself
RESOLUTIONS TIP #3: Convince yourself that you deserve the end result of what you’re resolving to do.
Resolutions and goals are awesome, but only if they encourage us to act on them. One way to prep yourself for success is to really believe that you deserve to succeed in your goal. Becky Motew, whom I interviewed for The Rose & Thorn Literary Ezine about her debut novel, Coupon Girl, in 2006, posted recently about this very topic at her Coupons from the Edge blog. At the end of her list of resolutions, Becky said,
But now I want to be what I was before. I want to be happy and have a twinkle in my eye.
I choose this for myself.
Why do I want to stop leaving dishes in the kitchen sink until it’s full and I feel frantic that I need to CLEAN the KITCHEN right NOW? Because I deserve to live in a home that I feel proud of, one that doesn’t make me feel stressed out. Because I deserve to find a clean spoon every time I need one. Because I deserve to drink out of the nice glasses every day.
Why do I want to be more organized? Because I deserve to have free time. Because I deserve the peace of mind that comes with knowing that I haven’t forgotten to do something or misplaced a bill. Because I deserve to relax.
Why do I want to get in better shape? Because I deserve to be healthy. Because I deserve to run around with my dog at the park for more than 5 minutes. Because I deserve to live a long life. Because I deserve to look at myself in the mirror and say, “That’s me. I did that.”
What are you choosing for yourself this year?
