Introducing Your New LivelyWomen.com Blogger
Well hey there! I’m Kristen King, and I’m so excited to be your new LivelyWomen.com host here at b5media. Thanks to Hsien for keeping the lights burning while I got settled into the new gig.
Now, I don’t know about you, but I like to know who’s talking to me when I read these blog things, so here’s a quick rundown:
NAME I was born Kristen Elizabeth Skove, but changed my name when I got married in September 2004. You’ll find my byline as Kristen E. Skove, Kristen Skove King, and Kristen S. King, but I generally just use Kristen King now.
AGE I’ll be 25 in March, which is a roundabout way of saying that I’m 24 now. I’m not sure exactly how that happened, but here I am.
LOCATION Fred Vegas, or, if you want to find it on a map, Fredericksburg, Virginia, self-titled “America’s Most Historic City.” I’ve lived here since August 2000, when I moved south from my childhood home in Green Township, New Jersey, to attend Mary Washington College. Before coming to VA, I lived in the same house, a renovated 1860’s brick schoolhouse on a dirt road my whole life. (Check out the first 30 seconds of the video here for an idea of what my hometown is like. Slide 2 is the deli-general store where I worked in high school. Slide 3 is the Lackawanna Railroad bridge about 500 feet from the other brick schoolhouse in the area. Slide 5 is my house in its heyday!)
MARITAL STATUS Married since September 25, 2004. I met my husband during college while I was working as a barista at his mom’s coffee shop. He came in one day for a chai latte and BOOM it was love at first site. We got snowed in together for three days that night, and he proposed five weeks later (but we talked about getting married within the first four hours). His name is Jesse, and he’s awesome.
OFFSPRING No kids–yet. But I do have two cats (Zoe is a 4-year-old Lynx Point Siamese and Isabel is a 1-year old tuxedo kitty) and a puppy who rocks. Her name is Pickles, and she’s a 5-month-old pug. I think she’s a genius, but I might be biased.
PROFESSION I’m a full-time freelance writer-editor and consultant. I started my own business, Kristen King Freelancing, in June 2004 and quit my “real job” for total self-employment in April 2006. You can learn more about that at my website and my writing-editing blog, ::inkthinker::. I love working from home!
EDUCATION I graduated from Mary Washington College (now the University of Mary Washington) in May 2004 with a Bachelor’s in English. I’m currently in grad school at George Washington University, working on my Master’s in publishing. I’ll be done in November 2007, and I can’t wait.
HIDDEN TALENT(s) I can put my feet behind my head. I can say the Peter Piper tongue-twister really fast. I have a freakishly accurate memory when it comes to random conversations I had 10 years ago or what people were wearing when I met them, but can’t remember what I had for dinner last night.
We’re going to be spending a lot of time together, so what else would you like to know? Leave your questions in the comments–and tell me a little about yourself while you’re there.
