Best State Economies for Women
The Institute for Women’s Policy Research has released their list of the best and worst state economies for women.
Best States
- 1. District of Columbia
- 2. Maryland
- 3. Massachusetts
- 4. Minnesota
- 5. Vermont
- 6. Connecticut and New Jersey
- 8. Colorado
Worst States
- 51. Arkansas
- 50. Louisiana
- 49. West Virginia
- 48. Mississippi
- 47. Kentucky
- 46. Montana
- 45. Tennessee
- 44. New Mexico
States were judged on women’s employment and earnings as well as the general economic policy environment affecting women’s educational attainment, business ownership, poverty status, and health insurance coverage.
Heidi Hartmann, institute president and economist:
Women have come a long way, but are still wanting for equal pay. In fact, at the current rate of progress, equal pay will take another 50 years.
