Staying Lively Through Connecting with Friends
I went to a meeting yesterday with four of my old high school friends — girls I’ve known since elementary school, actually. We’re planning our 20th high school reunion, which will take place next summer (so now you know my age — no secrets, huh).
It was great to see these old friends. They know me — the way I used to be as a shy, awkward middle schooler, and now a late-30ish woman with a bit more worldly experience. We’re looking forward to connecting with our classmates, who are scattered all over the place.
I think this is important for women — to stay lively by connecting with friends. If you’ve moved around a lot and you’ve lost touch with people, it’s no big deal. Google them and see what they’re up to. Send them an email or letter. Call them up. I used to love all the Japanese stationery sets when I lived in Japan. It’s inspiring to write a letter when you can write on something interesting.
It’s worth it. Especially if the winter doldrums are hitting you and you’re feeling sort of down, maybe it’s time to rekindle something old — people change over the years, even people you didn’t like 20 years ago. Haven’t you changed?
