Writing a Novel Can Be Good for You
![]()
I’m attempting to try something new this month. I’m joining in with at least 60,000 other people around the world who will be trying to write a novel. November is National Novel Writing Month. Care to join us?
I’ve written plenty of short stories, but never developed a character into a full-length novel. I’m excited and consider this part of my healthy living journey. As I’ve been cleaning up my diet, increasing my water intake and exercising more, some of my childhood dreams have begun to resurface. One of my dreams has always been to write children’s books.
My life is busy now, yet it’s the perfect time to write for kids when I’m surrounded by such great dialogue in my very own home. I’m planning on spending the next month writing every chance I can get. Who knows whether it will ever be published. I do plan on going to a couple of big writing conferences in 2007, and I know it’s very, very hard to get an agent or editor interested in your work. But why not?
Writing makes me happy, and I’d love to think that some child out there might read my words someday and be enlightened on a topic I feel passionate about. It’s a journey I’m willing to begin. Just wanted to let you know!

Me, too! I was so excited to get started that I woke up extra-early this morning (OK, the jet lag had something to do with it, too) and banged out 2,500 words before 10:00am. Wonder how long I can keep this up….
Good luck and happy writing!
