Paula Radcliffe Staying Fit Through Pregnancy
Marathon record holder Paula Radcliffe is staying fit through her pregnancy, according to the Times Online.
She’s six months pregnant and plans to continue training for one more month before she stops to take a break before her baby’s delivery. For someone in top shape such as Radcliffe, she’s very in tune to what her body and baby need:
As you might expect of the woman who set a championship marathon record of 2hr 20min 57sec at the World Championships last year, far from being reckless, Radcliffe is in tune with her body and, therefore, more in tune with her pregnancy than most. “I lie down after runs, I listen to my body. I feel the baby kick a lot. I can tell which way up the baby is sitting.”
Is it safe to keep exercising during pregnancy?
In the Times Online article, The Royal College of Obstreticians and Gynaecologists offers several tips for fitness-minded moms to be, including this one:
Don’t worry about the baby bouncing during jogging, it is well-protected in the womb. If you feel uncomfortable in the later stages, try swimming or walking. Dizziness and extreme tiredness suggest you are overdoing it. A good gauge is that you can talk while exercising.
The RCOG does say it’s best for pregnant women to avoid activities that could result in dangerous injuries, such as horseback riding, cycling, skiing and gymnastics.

It’s wonderful to see a healthy pregnant woman! High weight gain doesn’t have to be the norm during pregnancy.

Yes, I was shocked to read it’s possible to keep training for marathons through six months of pregnancy. I wish I hadn’t gained so much weight — I’m finding it impossible to lose! :(

The workout during pregnancy is important because this way the woman will feel attractive even when she is gaining weight and having a big belly.:)
