Fybrocystic Breast Disease — Part 2

by Heather on September 30th, 2006

The Woman's Encyclopedia of Natural Healing

Women have a 1 in 9 lifetime risk of developing breast cancer, according to this chart from the UK Telegraph. While the number of diagnoses has reached an all-time high, so has the number of survivors.

In part 1 of this series, I wrote about the causes of fibrocystic breast disease, but what are the symptoms? According to The Woman’s Encyclopedia of Natural Healing:

Fybrocystic Breast Disease shows up as single or multiple breast lumps. Cysts are usually harmless, but are related to a higher-than-normal chance of breast cancer later on. Mammograms determine whether or not breast lumps are benign.

The Johns Hopkins Breast Cancer Center has an “Ask the Expert” page that may give you more details about specific diagnoses. Again, it’s not to replace a visit to your own doctor, but the information is helpful.
