Does TV Viewing Cause Weight Gain?
It’s been a while since I shopped in a furniture store, but I was out the other day looking for bunk beds. One thing that surprised me was how gigantic chairs and couches have gotten lately. Have any of you noticed?
It seems like beauty has taken a back seat to comfort — and living room furniture has one purpose now: accommodating couch potatoes. The furniture I saw had built-in places to hold drinks and snacks. Great! Who needs a kitchen table anymore?
I heard on the radio last week that Americans watch an average of 28 hours of TV per week — four hours a day. No wonder we struggle with obesity. Here’s a Stanford study documenting how reducing TV viewing in children also led to a reduction in weight gain.
Watching TV every now and then is fine — but like everything, too much of sitting on our behinds can cause those behinds to increase in size. So let’s get moving!

Sitting on your ass causes weight gain. I watch TV while working out every day and I’m pretty sure that’s how I’m back into a “normal” BMI.
