The South Beach Diet, Here We Go
I started reading The South Beach Diet recently because I wanted to see what all the hoop-la was about. I’ve been fascinated lately with everything diet-related. Probably because all that I learn affects my bottom line (pun intended) and maybe yours too!
Excuse me for being ignorant, but I didn’t know this diet was developed by a CARDIOLOGIST, Dr. Arthur Agatston, M.D. He got so tired of seeing the severe heart problems of his overweight patients that he developed the diet to alter their blood chemistry to help improve their vascular systems. A side benefit: weight loss. A long-term side benefit: healthy living.
Right now, I’m in mourning that I was duped for over a decade with the old Food Pyramid, which was deeply flawed. This was drilled in my head since the early 90s, when it first came out. Low-fat, High carbs. During all of my pregnancies, I was given a million pamphlets of the Food Pyramid graphic, and was told to “eat the majority of my calories as whole grains.” Now, I’m reading why Dr. Agatston said that’s made us into one fat, diabetic nation. I’ll tell you more as I go. Has anyone read this book or followed the South Beach Diet?
