Happy Bastille Day!

by Heather on July 14th, 2006

If you’re from France, here’s to your Happy Bastille Day, which, according to Wikipedia,”commemorates the 1790 Fête de la Fédération, held on the first anniversary of the storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789.” I’m thinking of my friend Mary who lives and writes books along the French Riviera.

I was there 17 years ago in 1989, standing on the glorious Champs-Élysées that runs through Paris, watching an extraordinary French Bicentennial parade. I never dreamed one day I’d be blogging about it for an international audience of fitness-minded women. But here I am.

As we head into the weekend, what’s ONE thing you can do today on your journey to healthy living? Start small. If you go out to eat tonight, order something with vibrant natural color, like steamed vegetables. Then don’t eat everything on your plate — remember, the restaurant portions are for men. Take half your meal home in a to-go box, and you’ll have something for Saturday lunch.

I loved this article by Colette Bouchez of the WebMD Weight Loss Clinic, 10 Diet Rules Meant to be Broken. Let’s bust these rules and celebrate! As the French say, à votre santé, here’s to your health!
